Compassionate Life

For everyone who believes in the right to live

sleepyredwolves asked: I read the article you posted comparing veganism and being pro-life, it was great! Unfortunately, I'm literally crying right now because I started reading the pro-life tag and it's just entirely filled with people shaming anyone pro life. I'm so sickened and dis heartened, I honestly don't understand. People can so easily get behind veganism, despite the whole "it's my body I can eat what I want" argument that omnis use, but when it comes to abortion, apparently that has different connotations.

Hey I’m so sorry I only just saw this! I’m glad you like the article :) I know it’s such a shame. I follow secular pro life which is a really good pro life group that has obviously nothing to do with religion but instead the moral side of things (much like vegans).
It’s such a difficult position and I don’t see why there aren’t more people who support all life forms. I hate when vegans hate on pro lifers and vice versa. To me they are all fighting for the same thing and could achieve so much more if they worked together.

Glue

Just wanted to let you know that I have tried collecting information on cruelty free and vegan glues, but the only company that I have had a response from is UHU, so I must assume the others either test on animals or use animal ingredients.

UHU is a widespread brand though and does both stick and liquid glues for both arts and crafts and general everyday use. It also does white tack :)

Please support them!

How can you say you’re trying to spiritually evolve, without even a thought about what happens to the animals whose lives are sacrificed in the name of gluttony?

Set Backs

Confession Time! I was actually vegan in the past, went vegetarian, and am now vegan again.

I first decided I wasn’t going to eat meat while on vacation with my parents. We visited an Iguana Farm and whilst they were all running around perfectly happy, the farm also had a monkey and a bear. These were in tiny individual cages. The bear was doing the typical walking in circles thing - difficult in the space he had. The monkey was desperate for company. It reached its arms out to us and grabbed my dad’s hand. He wouldn’t let him go again. He just wanted to feel the touch of another on his skin. It was awful to watch them and it really upset me. I just felt so helpless and wanted to do something.

I realized that those animals we keep for food are as unhappy as these poor little creatures. And I decided I would stop supporting that. My parents seemed ok with it.

Alcohol

To my dear vegans and vegetarians, unfortunately not all our favorite drinks are actually suitable for us. Here are a few vegan friendly options and a few that are not suitable. Additionally at the bottom of the post there is a link to a website where you can look up all your favorite drinks. I have tried to post just a few so that (hopefully) you can remember them while out, and I have also tried to pick well known brands, in the hope that you will recognize them and be able to find them wherever you happen to be. Additionally, remember that all German beers brewed according to German purity laws (Reinheitsgebot) are vegan, as no additives are allowed.

Egg Replacements

Here are a few alternatives to using eggs in recipes. I have organized them by conventional items (things most of us have on hand), fruit (using fruit/vegetables to replace eggs) and other items (these are things most of us would have to go out and buy first). The first version I have used a lot in various cakes and it has always worked well.

For pancakes the applesauce version works well. I also find the fruit versions work well in brownies, especially the beets. I tend to use leftover ones after making Colleen Patrick Goudreau’s vegan beet cake.

For quiches you will have to use the tofu options.

For egg whites see the last suggestion, also on the EnerG egg replacer box it states how to use the egg replacer as an egg white replacer only.

I haven’t tried all of these, they are simply suggestions I have collected over time. It gives you various options to play around with. You can also look up vegan recipes, which means you won’t have to try and work around the word “egg” in a recipe :)
